Hi, I’m Elvis -
a photographer and filmmaker living in Nelson, though much of my life is spent travelling and sailing, following stories wherever they unfold.
My path into photography hasn’t been a straight one, working as a dive instructor, ambulance medic, conservation ranger, and expedition sailing yacht crew. Each of those roles took me to new places, challenged me in different ways, and in their own way led me toward visual imagery. What started as documenting experiences is now the work I love most.
It was while crewing at sea that I first picked up a camera to tell a story. What began as documenting life on the water grew into a documentary, fundraising efforts, and media campaigns — and showed me the power of images to connect people.
These days, I live aboard a 36ft yellow submarine called Peregrine with my partner, capturing the life of the boat and its crew along the way. Being close to the elements and living simply has influenced the way I work — I look for natural light, subtle tones, and a minimal, ethereal style that lets people and places feel honest.
For me, photography and film are about connection — the people I’m working with, and with the moments themselves. I aim to capture things as they are: genuine, and quietly beautiful. Whether shooting a portraits, wedding, commercial, adventure, or collaborating with other creatives, I try to create an environment where people feel comfortable, present, and themselves.
If my work resonates with you I’d love to hear from you and see how we might create something together.
